The Internet protocol suite, commonly known as TCP/IP, is the framework organizing the communication protocols used in the Internet and similar networks. Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn published its founding design in May 1974, crediting members of the International Network Working Group with important influences, and the ARPANET's migration from NCP to TCP/IP was completed on the flag day of 1 January 1983, when the new protocols were permanently activated: the day the modern Internet's common language became mandatory.
