Thomas Sterling is a professor in the Department of Intelligent Systems Engineering at Indiana University Bloomington, where he directs the Artificial Intelligence Computing Systems Laboratory. Known as the father of Beowulf clusters, he has spent more than four decades researching advances in parallel high performance computing, including serving as principal investigator on the Hybrid Technology Multi-Threaded Project for petaflops computing systems. He is a Fellow of the AAAS and a winner of the Gordon Bell Prize.
